“The game isn’t about becoming somebody, it’s about becoming nobody”
— Ram Dass
Ifyou’ve ever spent a second in Los Angeles, then you’re keenly aware of everyone’s need to be somebody. What follows the words, “I AM” are seemingly some of the most important and telling parts of speech that we ever utter in conversation. We live in a culture that thrives on exchanges from Instagram accounts like, “OverheardLA” where people document the superficial and humorous exchanges between others that highlight our need to be seen and heard . . . to be somebody and in some cases, to be anybody other than who we are. Living in a culture that places value on what you do and who you are in the world only serves to reinforce our need to be more, do more and have more while grappling with unattainable states of positivity.
